Our project team went out for this game of Eisstockschiessen last day. Eisstockschiessen? Yeah, that same expression in your face right now… I had that same weird thoughtful look too while I was reading the invitation mail.
Well despite the complicated name, the actual game is quite simple. It also goes by the more pronounceable name of Bavarian curling. The rules are simple, we take turns throwing and sliding a computer joystick like contraption made out of granite(?) and try to get as close to a small puck. Kind of like bowling in reverse - throw the pins to hit the ball!
And to make things a bit touchy, all this happens on rock solid ice! My fear for ice is well established thanks to the number of times I have slipped already. But what the heck, team building is more important
Anyways I was expecting to use this trump card that this was my first ever time doing this, just in case I sucked at this sport (too!). But alas, apart from 1 or 2, none of my German colleagues had ever tried this before and they had only barely heard of this sport. Hmm… there goes my excuse! And I did pretty badly to begin with. But towards the end, I somewhat got the hang of it and helped my team win 1 or 2 rounds. It was all pure luck, but still we did win them hehe. The other Indian guys except Priya were pretty good at this though, with the newest German team mate Timo even quipping that Ginu “has finally found his sport.”
All in all, great fun… Maybe we should start up a federation in India and I could make it to the national team.. Hmm.. evil plan hatched!

Multitasking can be a good thing, but not always…
A few days ago me and this girl I know were having a discussion about her singing, over email. I had sent a not so positive review of her skills, and the poor thing was drafting a “spicy” reply to me. Suddenly she receives a phone call from her colleague. The colleague asks her to inform their Project Manager (a German) that she would not be coming to office. You see Microsoft Outlook is a great app, you can type someone’s name on the CC field and you are able to view their office extension from this. So this resourceful friend of mine uses this shortcut to get her PMs number. All is well till now. But the poor thing presses Ctrl-Enter on the keyboard. Another great thing about Outlook is that the mail is sent instantaneously using this shortcut key combination. So this mail comes to me, with a cc to her PM. Unfortunately, the first line in the email read something like this - “@$##!@#!$%^%$^#$#@%@^@#$!@$#%”. I can only imagine that chilling feeling that went through her mind. But yeah he was a sport and didn’t mind too much getting this as his first mail for the day
and luckily all other expletives used were in Malayalam a language I am pretty sure he doesn’t understand hehe.
Why did I put this up here? Well I was bored… and wanted to beware you of Outlook, it plays tricks on you, especially when you are multitasking
Oh and by the way : Happy new year folks!

I got recruited! The company is Infosys, one of India’s biggest IT firms. I’m feeling so relieved and secure now.
84 of us from my college, and 15 from my class got placed here. That’s great too, I would have some friends there already. But on the other hand, some of friends didn’t get in too. But they have plenty of opportunities coming their way. I heard 16 more companies are coming to our campus this year!
Oh! And for the first time in my life I wore a tie. Oh my goodness, I wonder how people walk around all day wearing one. I was feeling uncomfortable even while sitting in an air-conditioned room. Hmmm… I better learn the art of being “tied” up, pretty soon.
By the way all this happened a week ago, but as usual got a bit lazy to blog it.
