After 6 years; Rusty.in has moved on to a brand new design. The design is minimalistic, and I have tried my best to make the site much more readable.

The site more or less conforms to the HTML5 spec and I have tested it across most browsers I have access to. It works best on any standard compliant browser – read Chrome (visitor share of 24.4%) , Firefox (23.5%), Safari (1.9%), Opera (4.3%), IE 9.0+ (1%). On the mobile, it works good in iOS (0.2%), on Android (0.2%) and also (almost perfect) on the Opera Mini (0.1%). IE versions less than 9.0 are a bit rough on the edges – IE6 (5.3%) is the worst but still readable enough. IE 7 (8%) & IE 8 (7%) are more or less ok. I don’t plan to spend too much time on that though as long as more than 3/4th of my visitors see what I intend them to see :)

The site is still powered by WordPress. All the extra HTML, CSS, JS and PHP were coded on gVim on Ubuntu and the logo on top was my first experiment with the excellent vector drawing tool Inkscape. So the new avatar is a 100% pure open source product! Yeah design is possible without spending a penny.

I have also moved the site on to a dedicated new account at A small orange. A big thanks to Anand Bhai for hosting me for free all these years. I finally moved out to my own home :D

I hope you do like the new version. Comments, criticisms and suggestions are most welcome!

This has been waiting in the wings for a long long time… and finally I was able to fight my laziness and present to you the sparkling new design for Rusty.in. The visual changes are not extensive, the changes are mostly behind the scenes. Below are the major changes made, in no particular order:

Almost XHTML compliant. (Still has 3 errors, working on this)

Now runs on WordPress 2.3 and PHP 5

Post tags!

No more “RustyShack” just Rusty.in

No more dead links :)

Content licensed under Creative Commons

Subscribe by email, better RSS feeds visibility

Flickr on the panel

The site works best on any standards compliant browser like the latest versions of Opera (my personal favourite), Firefox, Safari, Konqueror etc. This should also work on non-standards compliant browsers (like Internet Explorer), but it might not entirely look how I intended it to look. For those of you using such browsers, I would strongly recommend switching to a standards compliant browser, not for the sake of this site, but for improving your general internet experience. But its your choice :)

I am working on some other changes too, a movie meter, integrated social bookmarking, fixing the XHTML validity errors, better thumbnails and more.. So stay tuned, loyal reader! :)

Its been nearly a year since something moved here! Lot of things happened, lots of things changed (see, even the URL to my blog!).

So, what happened in the past 11 months? In a nutshell..
Shifted from Trivandrum to Bangalore, working for Bosch, still single (I know, pathetic!), found some new friends, still have those old buddies (and still go for those trips you loved reading about), finally ‘flew’, living with roommates, bought a laptop (yay!), learned German…. etc etc.

If you are among the very few who used to read this regularly, sorry for keeping you waiting.
If you are the new kid in the block.. Welcome!!

Hopefully, no more interruptions. So stay tuned and thank you for you patience!

PS: If I recall properly this is my fourth I’m Back post :)

So today was digging into RustyShack’s stats page and decided why not have a Rusty’s Zietgeist! Yeah, I know Google gets a million hits everyday and mine struggles to reach even 150. But I had nothing better to do today. Consider this as an alternate view from the not so lucky less-hits-recieved side of the web. :D

So here I am, with my third “I’m back” post :). It has really been a long while since I have even given some attention to this site. But its all going to change.. New name, new look and hopefully new life.

I have decided to actively run a blog on the site. I had failed thrice on this front, but this time I am determined (I think so). As a policy and also to increase the longevity perhaps, I have decided not to make it a “daily personal journal”, rather a place where I can share my thoughts on subjects that interests me. So expect a cocktail of Programming, Formula 1, Cricket and what not! I hope I do get some support and possibly atleast a few regulars on the days to come :).

Among the changes in this version (5th)
The site is now based entirely on PHP & MySQL and the blog is running on the WordPress engine. I’m also trying to make it XHTML standards compliant, its not been fully implemented yet, but I’m working on it.

And if you were wondering, this website was orginally established in November, 2000. It underwent a series of name changes, url changes, design changes and was ultimately moulded into this. You can read all about that here.
